Neil Young News
Over on Haahnster's Hallucinations some -- well -- hallucinatory Neil Young reviews.
Just the titles themselves are worth a read:
The Heart of Gold film official website has just been updated.
Tons of good stuff on the film. More clips, downloadable artwork, interviews, background info, etc. Also, a theater release schedule through May.
Get Weld is a Neil Young tribute band from Canada. They are based out of Newmarket and Peterborough, both in Ontario. From the band's website:
We also build our own equipment, wherever we can. So come see one of our shows, you may just see something blow up (due to extreme levels of rock)."
Here's something Thrasher recently stumbled upon, something called Fanlisting for Neil Young.
So what's this all about? It's another way for the Neil Young Nation to unite! Web designer Raine writes:
"I began to listen to Neil Young when my other main huge influence, Bob Dylan was really changing my life. Bob Dylan and Neil Young are really my main two; they're my biggest influences. It was through Dylan that Neil came into my life, and it's come to the point where to ask me what Young means to me is the same as asking me to read my diary to you. Neil touched my life through his love for nature, his gentle words, his soft, delicate to the touch voice and simple imagery that can change your way of thinking."
Very cool web site for a tribute band. Site streams Neil tunes 24/7.
The Neil Young celebrations continue this weekend in honor of his 60th birthday with the Rust Never Sleeps Tribute Band's performance this Saturday, November 12th at the Big Bear Lodge in Brookline, New Hampshire.
RUST NEVER SLEEPS is a unique, live rock show that celebrates the music, and musical career of Neil Young.
Capturing the spirit, the sound, and the feel of what can best be described as a "dream come true" concert experience; you will hear selections from The Buffalo Springfield as well as Young's early 70's folk-rock gems.
Tom H's always indispensable resource has a new address.
The new video of "The Painter" from "Prairie Wind" shows Neil in the studio recording the song in real time. Quite a treat to see the artist at work.
In the NPR interview with Neil on "Prairie Wind", Scott Simon discusses Neil's brain surgery, recording in Nashville, his father's recent death, and singing with Pegi among other topics.
The Live 8 concerts ended with Neil Young and an all-star finale of "Rockin' In The Free World". Quite a fitting conclusion for a day in music history. The Live 8 concert performances are available for streaming on the AOL network. Neil's entire setlist including the new song "When God Made Me" is hosted along with all of the other performances like Pink Floyd's sublimely blissfully beautiful 20 minute set.
Neil Young is generating discussion among model train buffs.
This time Neil appears to be operating under the handle "Clyde Coil" in a Lionel Train promotional video filmed using Neil's train layout.
Train fans are somewhat perplexed by what Neil is trying to accomplish. Follow the discussion link above and try and figure it out!
Sidestreet Records has tons of rare Neil Young records and CDs along with lots of photos and articles. Also, Sidestreet Records has been most supportive of the Release "Time Fades Away" Petition and Jef has put together a new and improved Artwork for Time Fades Away page that looks fantastic. Thanks Jef!
Don't Be Denied.
Crazy Horse bassist Billy Talbot has a new album out with his band called Alive In The Spirit World. Billy's site has bonus MP3 downloads and video of a 10-minute performance of Billy Talbot Band's "Dreamer". Very cool.
Neil Young's 1973 "Time Fades Away" is one of the most remarkable live albums ever recorded. Certainly at the time of release, it was almost unprecedented for an artist to release a live concert recording of previously unreleased material. Long out of print on vinyl, still unavailable on CD in the early 21st century and widely bootlegged similar to the original "Missing 6", the album is considered to be the "Holy Grail" of all Neil Young albums.
Attention must be paid. Sign the Release "Times Fades Away" Petition Today! Thanks!
Some amazing photos of a reproduction of Neil's guitar "Old Black". The replica is detailed to the exact wear marks of Neil's trusty Gibson. Scroll down for photos.
Definitely a labor of love.

From The Music Box (September 2004, Volume 11, #9) review of the Greendale Film DVD review by John Metzger:
Word from MoMo that Les Gens Ordinaires is still alive and playing. As some of you may know, there's a French Neil Young list called Les Gens Ordinaires (translation of Ordinary People). They used to have their annual fest and a dedicated evening to play together in britanny bars. This year was at Pontrieux. Here are 2 albums with some pictures.

DJ'd by Sonic Space Alien, a longtime RUSTie & Neil fan, it's super cool. Because friends don't let friends listen to corporate radio. Tune in & turn on.
Bob Vogt, Neil Young's recording engineer for his work with The Bluenotes, has a website with recollections of working on Neil's ranch along with photos. Vogt writes: "Niko Bolas had been working with Young for a couple years and this whole era is pretty confusing because Neil recorded everything."
Chronicles the legendary Neil Young & Crazy Horse gigs from 1996 at Old Princeton Landing in Half Moon Bay, CA. Leave it to a Canadian to point out our own foibles, but itís hard to quibble when Young is so accurate in his assessment."
The Music Box has a bunch of other interesting Neil Young album reviews, also.
